“Working full-time and just trying to get by with tiredness and weight gain, I found myself barely exercising and eating large portions and food that didn't make me feel good from the inside.

As a Weight Watchers leader, I used to encourage and support others to live healthier lives. But when I stopped leading because I was busy with work commitments, I let myself slip back into bad habits with no one to support me and keep me accountable.

It was a tough lesson, I didn't realise how much menopause would affect my body, habits, sleep and how my diet and exercise would need to change to maintain a healthy weight. However now I'm doing much better at 'living in the now' and placing more emphasis on eating to feel good and exercising to be functional to keep up with my grandkids.

Most weekday afternoons and weekend mornings, I now follow my routine of mobility work and walking. I’ve also been changing my diet to suit my activity levels and age. Even with the food changes I made, it never felt like a ‘diet’.

The best advice however, was to do weight training and specific mobility work. I used to just walk and sometimes it was for long periods to punish myself for over eating.

Now I prioritise clean eating, protein, sleep and training to keep my body strong and independent as I age.

I was 79kg when I first came to see Kylie and when I got to 61kg, I got a professional photo shoot done and felt so sexy and in love with myself again. I'm even buying myself bikinis now, which I never would have before”.

When I started with Coach Kylie, I had very little experience in training and fitness. At four months pregnant, I wanted to get fit and stay healthy in a safe environment with someone I could trust. Kylie provided the confidence I needed to complete exercises that would prepare me for the arrival of my baby and labour.

There were times during the pregnancy when I didn’t feel up to training (I even fainted once!), but Kylie was always there to assist me with my fitness goals and offer recommendations for the health of my mind, body, and growing baby bump.

Unfortunately, I had a long and difficult labour, which required a break from training to allow my body to repair and avoid any long-term side effects. During this time, Kylie kept in contact, providing support, motivation, and understanding of the challenges new mums face in the fourth trimester (something I didn't even know about).

As a mother herself, Kylie could relate to the sleepless nights and post-body changes. Now, I am back in training post-pregnancy and loving it. My little one attends our PT sessions, so Kylie gets lots of cuddles while I train in a relaxed, social environment, getting fit and having fun.

"Reflecting on the year 2023, I can see how much has changed. At the end of 2022, I resolved to take control of my health, improve my energy levels, and lose weight. That's when I joined the FEMFITLIFE Community.

I never liked exercise and always thought it was soul-destroying and painful. However, Kylie showed me that exercise doesn't have to be that way. Kylie has shown me that exercise can be fun and enjoyable. I love training in a private space with a trainer who is relatable and makes exercise feel achievable, not hard.

Not long after starting, I began to see results, particularly with my energy levels, which have improved significantly—something I am incredibly grateful for, especially as I need endurance to get through long shifts in a hospital emergency department. In just one month, I started losing weight, and by the end of 12 months, I had lost 15kg.

I've also discovered types of exercise that I genuinely enjoy, like kettlebell training, which has made working out much more enjoyable and sustainable. Beyond the scale, I've experienced numerous non-scale victories. I have more energy and no longer spend my days feeling tired and sluggish. I've also had to get smaller scrubs for work in the emergency department, which has been a wonderful reminder of my progress. Additionally, making small changes to my nutrition didn't feel like deprivation and contributed significantly to my weight loss.

Exercise has become a positive part of my life rather than a dreaded chore. I feel so much better—healthier and lighter, both physically and emotionally."
